In February 2009 the partnership of SSE Renewables (75%) and SeaEnergy Renewables (25%), was awarded exclusivity by The Crown Estate to develop the Beatrice offshore wind farm in Scottish Territorial waters. This joint venture partnership is 'Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited' (BOWL).
The development site will cover an approximate area of 131.5km2 and is located, at its closest point, approximately 13.5km off the Caithness coast, in the Outer Moray Firth, to the north of the two existing Beatrice demonstrator turbines. The proposed wind farm would have an anticipated capacity of approximately 920MW from power generated by around 184 turbines.
During the next year, BOWL will liaise with local authorities, statutory and non-statutory consultees and other stakeholders in order to undertake site specific consultations and environmental impact assessments before bringing forward a final proposal. As part of this liaison, the Beatrice offshore wind farm Scoping Report was submitted in March 2010 to statutory and non-statutory consultees to establish the scope of the environmental work required as part of the development of this site, and invite feedback from interested parties.
On being granted exclusivity for Beatrice in 2009 Peter Raftery, General Manager of UK Offshore Development for Airtricity, said "We are delighted that The Crown Estate has granted exclusivity to SSE Renewables and SeaEnergy to develop Beatrice. We believe that Scottish Territorial Waters represent an outstanding renewable resource and I look forward to the development of the site in consultation with key stakeholders."

Moray Offshore Renewables Ltd
In 2009, EDP Renewables and SeaEnergy Renewables came together to form a joint venture company called Moray Offshore Renewables to develop offshore wind energy in the Moray Firth.
In January 2010, The Crown Estate announced that Moray Offshore Renewables Ltd was the successful partner for the development of offshore wind in Zone 1 of the Round Three Offshore Windfarm Leasing Programme. Together we bring:
- Strong, Clear Commitment.
- Unique deepwater capabilities.
- Proven track record for delivering and operating at scale.
The Project
We propose to harness the natural power of the wind in the North Sea using offshore wind turbines to deliver approximately 1 300 MW of generation in the Moray Firth. Expected to provide enough clean electricity to supply upwards of 1 million homes. This output is equivalent to a large conventional thermal powerstation, and so can make a considerable contribution to improving the environment by reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm
The award of offshore wind farm sites under The Crown Estate’s Scottish Territorial Waters leasing programme was announced in February 2009.
SeaEnergy Renewables Limited (SERL) was awarded the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm site in the outer Firth of Tay region. The site is located approximately 15 - 22 km to the east of the Angus coastline in Scotland. The site is expected to consist of around 180 wind turbines covering an area of about 150 km2 with an estimated installed capacity of 1,000 MW and a potential yield of over 3,000 GWh per year.
